The Ambassador
Nikki Bukowski
One of our free write assignments inspired me. I was thinking about the symbolizism of a crown. I like this excerpt and feel it is well written. I did not encounter any struggles. I expanded the passage.
The Crown
The crown is merely just a symbol. It is so much more then that. The crown symbolizes all that have come before and all that will come after. It is about love, passion, love for the community and passion to inspire others to achieve more, be better and to be a role model for the town. When people see a pretty girl in a dress and a crown on her head, they could see many things. Self-centeredness? Arrogance? Or even craziness could come to mind. They don’t see the girl who is the captain of her sports team, the girl who sacrifices weekend free time, to volunteer. The girl who got up at six in the morning on a saturday to be on time for a parade. The girl who brings smiles to other’s faces. The girl who reads to kindergarteners. The girl who loves the feeling of being thanked for her service. The girl whose heart sings with joy each time she puts on the crown and gown, knowing she is making a difference in this community and one day in this world. The girl who is a fifth generation to live in this town. The girl whose family name is as well know as the town itself. The girl who loves this town as if it is a family member and wants to raise her own family here one day. The girl who hears the town’s history and how her great great grandfather stepped off the boat from Poland and called this town his home, and where it has continued to be home for his descendents. Yes, I am that girl, and I do where the crown and my smile and heart shine just like the crown and title itself.
