01

Haiku memoir

Sparkly

The assignment, Haiku memoir inspired my choice. I was thinking about my crown and title while writing this. It was one of the most fun assignments to do. I did not encounter any struggles. I changed ine word to make it better.

"Always Sparkle and Wear your Crown"

Future Bio

Future Self

Future Bio inspired this choice. I was thinking about my future and the life I hope to have one day. I thought this was a fun assignment, thinking about our future selfs and the lives we hope to have. Thinking about if I wanted to live in Sauk Rapids or move away was a choice I kept contimplating. I proof read and made grammatical changes.

Hello! My name is Nicole Bukowski. I am a graduate of St.Ben's with a degree in accounting, and I am a licensed CPA. I currently live in Sauk rapids with my husband and our three daughters, Holly, Emma, and Payton. As a family we enjoy traveling, four-wheeling, hunting, and shopping. We also enjoy cheering on the Vikings, the Wild, and the Twins from our living room and in the stands. My husband and I met in college, he is a graduate from St.John's. I am a proud chair holder on the Sauk Rapids City Council and hope to one day be a county commissioner or the mayor of Sauk Rapids.

Disaster

Flames

Disaster inspired my choice. I wanted to create a story with lots of description and context. This one I consider to be one of my best works and I liked how creative I got to be. Thinking of the plot was hard to come up with. I added more to the story and made it more descriptive.

As the flames and smoke rose around me, I could hear the explosives getting louder and growing closer. As I look down at my rife and tattered uniform, I fear the end is near. My battle buddy Brian and I separated from each other. I haven't see him in seventy-three minutes. Until my first deployment I didn't know an entire town could be destroyed with that time period, but now it's second nature. We have already lost twelve men out of our unit in the last two months. These two months have been nothing but hell. I don't know how I've survived. Brian has been my best friend all my life, we went to school together, enlisted at eighteen and fought next to each other these last four years. Hearing the last bomb go off half a mile from me, brought me back to reality. I needed to get to the dunes out where Sergeant Taylor ordered to meet after the ambush. The town is destroyed, hundreds of Israelis dead and nothing but smoke and bullets in the air. I can't leave without Brian, I won't leave my best friend behind. As the smoke starts to clear, I can see a body....It's Brain! He's been hit! I make it to him and see there is blood on his hip, he's a alive and opens his eyes and just barely recognizes me. I need to get him to the dunes. I lift him over my shoulders and start heading to the dunes away from the chaos. God, he's heavy. We are halfway there when I hear another explosion.  I feel myself falling, damn my whole body aches. Brian got thrown a foot away from me. I can’t feel my legs, I hurt so bad. I slowly get myself up and limp over to Brain.

“hmmm”

“Brain, I got you man. We’re almost to the dunes.”

I get both of us up and start back on the dunes, the last half mile feels like eternity as I hear screams and explosions in the distance. We make it to the dunes and I have to get Brian some help his time is running out. I feel myself getting more and more tired. I just need to close my eyes just for a minute.

04

Other's View

Look at Her

Other's View assignment inspired this choice. I was trying to see myself through someone else's eyes.I chose this one was challenging to try to make it believeable, but also a lot of fun to write. A challlenge was trying to see myself through another's eyes. I expanded on the plot.

She was so happy, usually happy for standing outside in the bitter cold and a wind so strong. She just stood there smiling, waving and cheering "Merry Christmas!" I didn't understand how she could be so happy. It was freezing! I dreaded getting out of my car and going into Coborn's. I walked past and saw her crown and sash.

05

The Villian

Gatsby

The assignment "The Villian" inspired me. I had to become sinister in order to write this and mimick a villian's thought process. The Great Gatsby is one of my favorte novels and I found it intriging to look at it from the villian's perspective. I love the character of Gatsby, therefor it was hard to see him as the bad guy and have the perspective of the villian. I expanded the story.

Gatsby deserved this. Everything that happened he had it coming to him. First, he's a crook and takes people's money, then he tries to take my wife from. No! No I will not have tear my family apart. I won't let him take a mother away from a daughter, a wife away from a husband. I have to save my family, that's all I want is to save my family.

06

Plot Twist

The Daughter

"Plot Twist" inspired my choice. I had to get in the mindset of a mother wanting to protect her child. This was one of my favorite's because it's complex and has people left wondering. I didn't want to get too descripyive with this story, therefor I needed to incinuate many things. I expanded on the story.

She was a beautiful girl, my baby. Her hair was gold like the sun and eyes as blue as the sea. She had stars in her eyes and the innocence of an angel.... Until him. He destoryed her, he took away her sparkle and shine. He took something away she will never get back. He stole her innocence. Her beautiful innocence. How? How could he do this to my daughter, she's only thirteen a mire baby. My baby. He doesn't know what I've descovered. I, the women who lies down next to him each night, doesn't know I am aware of what is happening. Do I lie next to him each night and pretend as if nothing is wrong, or is this meant to be handled with a sinister approach. I love my husband. I really do. I thought his bond with Lydia was innocent. He was a wonderful step- father and took to Lydia right away and was such a loving husband to me.

A knock at the door? Whoever could that be?

"Ms. Knight?"

"Yes"

"I come from Master Johnson's plantation up the road. I'm sorry to inform you, but you're husband has been kill."

"What? What happened?"

"He was thrown from his horse. Your daughter is okay, she was with him when it happened."

07

Free Write

The Crown

Rationale: "Free Write" inspired my choice. My inspiration came from my crown and I was thinking about it while writing this. I love my crown and my title, any chance to talk about it, I take the opportunity

I did not encounter any struggles. I expanded on the story.

The crown is merely just a symbol. It is so much more then that. The crown symbolizes all that have come before and all that will come after. It is about love, passion, love for the community and passion to inspire others to achieve more, be better and to be a role model for the town. When people see a pretty girl in a dress and a crown on her head, they could see many things. Self-centeredness? Arrogance? Or even craziness could come to mind. They don’t see the girl who is the captain of her sports team, the girl who sacrifices weekend free time, to volunteer. The girl who got up at six in the morning on a saturday to be on time for a parade. The girl who brings smiles to other’s faces. The girl who reads to kindergarteners. The girl who loves the feeling of being thanked for her service. The girl whose heart sings with joy each time she puts on the crown and gown, knowing she is making a difference in this community and one day in this world. The girl who is a fifth generation to live in this town. The girl whose family name is as well know as the town itself. The girl who loves this town as if it is a family member and wants to raise her own family here one day. The girl who hears the town’s history and how her great great grandfather stepped off the boat from Poland and called this town his home, and where it has continued to be home for his descendents. Yes, I am that girl, and I do where the crown and my smile and heart shine just like the crown and title itself.

Ballad

Running Away with my Heart

As I heard the shot of the gun

My heart was racing, my blood pumping

The race had begun, it would be my last

I don’t think about anything

It is as if my mind goes clear

My feet feel like they are fire

I see the finish line, I hear the cheers

The last cross country race of my high school career

I can already feel the tears

As I look to see my teammates running to me

This cannot be it, it cannot be my time

I do not want to leave this team I call mine

Each day at practice they make my heart shine

As captain, I am the leader

I do not want to miss out on the laughs

All the adventures we have had

It is like a mother leaving her child

I am leaving this team, I call family

I have seen all grown from the beginning

Just starting out, not knowing what we were getting into

Apart of something bigger than myself

I knew I was making a difference someway somehow

My time on the team has ended

But the memories will live on for forever

Leading the team with my fellow captains

Who I will always and forever love

I say goodbye with a tear in my eyes

But a heart warm full of love

Because this team, this family, these people

Know I am always cheering from afar as I say goodbye
